µTorrent Web UI for iPhone

Click to download µTorrent Web UI for iPhone
current release: 1.5 new

Read here about new features added to the latest version.

In my opinion µTorrent is the best torrent client available today. It’s very lightweight and does not consume a lot of resources. I can easily have it running and keep working easily on other things. And of course I download only from Legal Torrents.

µTorrent comes with a built-in Web UI which allows you to control your client from anywhere using the web browser. The web interface is very powerful and exposes all the necessary features you need to operate the client remotely.

Unfortunately this Web UI is not displayed correctly on iPhone. I needed a web app for iPhone that will have the familiar look & feel and provide the same features as the original one.

There are several solutions out there that you can use but I wanted app designed specifically for iPhone. Not just render correctly on it but give the feeling that of native iPhone web app. This is when I’ve decided to write it on my own from scratch. The journey was not very easy but it was definitely exciting one.

In order to make this work you need to enable and configure the Web UI in µTorrent. Click here for more information.

How to use

On your iPhone/iPod Touch, navigate to the Safari browser and type in the URL to the new web app. The structure of the URL is in the following  format:

http://{IP address}:{port}/gui/iphone.html

For example: http://10.0.0.9:12300/gui/iphone.html

where {IP address} is the IP address or host name of the computer running the uTorrent client and {port} is the port number to which the client is listening to.

After opening it for the first time it is recommended to add the page to the Home Screen in iPhone.

Automatic installation (for Windows users only)

Click to download µTorrent Web UI for iPhone
iPhoneWebUI(1.5).exe (~282Kb)

Get it from CNET Download.com!

i really like your webui for iphone! much better for me than david raso’s implementation. i noticed a couple small quirks though. one, when you login, the page loads and once it’s done, the status bar at the top ends up being slightly cut off; the page is not scrolled all the way up to the top. also, i made a shortcut for it on my homescreen (which is really nice btw) although when i tap it, i see the webui page for a second, and then am prompted to login. shouldn’t i not be able to see that page until after i’ve fully logged in? keep up the great work, i like your version the best thus far!!

Hello, Thanks for using this tool. I’m about to release a new version these days. The scrolling issue should be fixed there. Regarding the login page – you do not see the page until you’re fully logged in – iPhone takes a screenshot of the last viewed page and displays it to you, so that is what you see.

To date it has been impossible for me to force start an item on my iPhone. Works great!!!

Is there a way to add a url/torrent to begin downloading using this interface?

…Or have link to show the settings screen as is available in the classic utorrent web ui. from there you can activate or deactivate scheduler..

    Jay,
Features that you’re asking for are very handy. I needed it by myself :) I will think of a creative and simple way to implement it and will release it in a nearest version.

    Thanks

    Kobi,
I downloaded your app but I am having a problem getting it to load on the screen. I get the prompt for my credentials but then I simply get a gray page. Any ideas/tips?

    Thanks

    Kobi,
Just a quick one, is it possible to have a manual refresh button, the auto refresh does not seem to work properly. ie. i need to close then re-open the app to show newly forced started torrents (even with 5 sec refresh selected). even if it is just by clicking the ‘activity’ label refreshes the view.
    Thanks again.

    Jay,

I’ve noticed that when clicking on Force Start it takes some time to refresh. I will take a look at auto refresh anyway to see if there’s some kind of bug. I think manual Refresh button is also a good idea.
I will fix it and release it with the rest of features (which is almost ready, just testing).

    Thanks

auto refresh does not appear to be working since updating to ver. 1.2 it will start working though if you change the number of seconds to something else, but it does not work upon initial load.

    Kobi,

I love the “app”. I have it installed on the PC and got it set up on my iphone and it works great. I like it much better than the alternative that’s out there. One question though: is there a way to download a torrent file when the link doesn’t end in .torrent? I don’t think webui supports it, so I’m not sure if it’s possible. If I’m on a PC, I’d just download the .torrent file then Browse to the .torrent file I downloaded.

For example, the URL is http://aprivatesite.net/torrents.php?action=download&id=1234

oh, and enjoy the coffee :)

As long as URL returns correct torrent contents you can use it easily via Web UI.

I got uTorrent running and I can manage the downloads
from Chrome on my PC, but when I try to access it from iPhone,
I always get error about Safari being unable to connect to
server. It is the same error on 3G and EDGE. I once managed to
get the user/password window, but the same error happened.
    Can anyone help me?

Have you tried using it with WiFi but from another location ? Make sure that your IP address is still the same and the port is open in firewall (perhaps router settings).
